Income Limits
RENT SUBSIDY PROGRAM
Please contact the Housing Division at (323) 887-4436 for availability. There may be a waiting list. The program provides subsidies to a total of 75 eligible households. The program is provided for residents who are at least 57 years of age or physically handicapped.
  • Applicant must be low or very low income households (see income limits)
  • Maximum monthly subsidy for a qualified household is $200
  • The Commission will make payments to the Landlord
  • Applicants are expected to pay a minimum of 25% of their income towards rent
  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate proof of residency for at least 3 years in the City of Commerce
  • Landlord must agree to participate in the program and consent to a yearly inspection of the unit to insure it is up to Building and Safety standards
  • Landlord must maintain rents at or below Section 8 rental limits for Los Angeles County
  • Households cannot receive assistance from any other state or federal housing assistance program
  • Qualified individuals must occupy all bedrooms of the rental units. Based on the review process, households can include dependents or individuals providing healthcare and assistance to a senior or physically handicapped person
  • Example: One senior living in a 3-bedroom apartment does not qualify under the program. Two seniors and a caregiver living in a 3-bedroom apartment do qualify.
