PUBLIC SERVICES Mission Statement The Mission of the Division of Public Works is to preserve the health and safety of the residents, workers, and guests of the City of Commerce, and to protect the environment. In accomplishing its mission, the Division is committed: - To encourage, promote and recognize excellence, personal integrity, personal growth, team work, professionalism and responsiveness in Division employees;
- To provide the highest quality of engineering services for the management team of the City of Commerce; and
- To sustain and improve the public goodwill by providing the highest quality of engineering, maintenance and operation services for City facilities, including the City-owned water system, public utilities, public streets, City parks and City buildings.
Approximately 75,000 people travel through the City of Commerce each day. This heavy flow of traffic places a very large demand on our City's street system. The Division of Public Services maintains about 69 miles of city streets. The maintenance work on the street system is accomplished by City personnel, by private contractors and by Los Angeles County agencies.
The Division of Public Services is also responsible for supervising the collection of residential trash (through contractual agreement) and for maintenance of streets, street lights, sewers, storm drains, public buildings and the City-owned water system.
The Division of Public Services is responsible for administering and monitoring all City facilities utilizing resources available to the City, such as city staff, agreements with private contractors and/or professional servicing agencies for the following: - Bridge Maintenance and Construction
- Curb, Gutter and Sidewalk Maintenance and Construction
- Graffiti Eradication
- Maintenance and Security of City-Owned Facilities
- Operation and Maintenance of Public Facilities
- Operation/Maintenance of City Water System
- Other facilities as directed by City Council
- Public Improvements in Streets and Alleys
- Public Right-of-Way
- Refuse Collection in Residential Areas
- Renovation Construction
- Sewer Maintenance and Construction
- Storm Drain Facilities
- Storm Drain Maintenance and Construction
- Street Lighting
- Street Marking and Signing
- Street Sweeping
- Surface Street Construction and Maintenance
- Traffic Commission Liaison
- Tree Service
- Tree Trimming, Removal and Planting
- Water System Improvement (including pump station)
