FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Q) How do I become a Video Production Volunteer?
A) Fill out the two applications on this web site and submit them to the Cable TV Coordinator. B) Schedule an appointment with Human Resources for fingerprinting and wait for clearance. C) Read and agree to the prerequisites for the Volunteer Program.
Q) Is there only one class I can take?
A) There are three classes that a volunteer can take: 1. Video Production 2. Non-Linear Editing - Requires special approval (see next question & answer) 3. TD and Directing - Requires special approval (see next question & answer)
Q) What is needed for the special approval?
A) You must have passed the City of Commerce's Video Production class or demonstrate to the Cable TV Coordinator that you possess more than basic video skills. Time availablity is another criteria.
Q) How long does it take to get a certificate?
A) The class usually takes about a year.
Q) What types of shows will I work on?
A) Council Meetings, Music Concerts, Variety Talk Shows, Sports Programs, Public Service Announcements, News program, Beauty Pageant, Swim meets, Water Polo Tournaments, and much more.
Q) Can I still participate in the program if I don't live in the City of Commerce?
A) Yes.
Q) What will I get out of the program?
A) Certificate from the City
B) Video footage for a DVD Resume
C) The ability to create a Video Production Resume
D) Sixteen Video Production Skills
(Camera, lighting, audio, teleprompting, grip, floor managing, video shading techniques, waveform/vector scope monitor understanding, camera robotics operation, video and audio connector identification, videotape and DVD burning, video and audio patching, character generation, basic animation development , router operation, and electrical power principles & operation.)
