Welcome to the City of Commerce!

The City of Commerce is a unique blend of industrial, commercial and residential areas. Incorporated in 1960, the city is located six miles east of downtown Los Angeles and bordered by Bell, Bell Gardens, Downey, East Los Angeles, Montebello and Vernon. It is home to 3,377 families and 1,800 businesses. The city’s mix of residential areas, retail stores, business parks, manufacturing and entertainment venues allows the city to provide high quality services for city residents while maintaining a pro-business climate.  Commerce is served by two major freeways, the Long Beach 710 and the Santa Ana 5. City residents have an array of services that include four parks, four libraries, a senior center, a teen center, an aquatics center, and a city-owned camp in the San Bernardino National Forest.  Commerce also provides its residents with free bus service.

Student Art Competition Deadline

Street Improvement: Garfield Avenue (at Slauson Avenue)
Major roadwork on Garfield Ave. at Slauson Ave. will continue through late February. If possible, avoid the intersection. For more information please call the Public Services Dept. at 323/887-4451.

City Cable Channels Have Moved
On January 12 the Commerce cable TV channels moved to their new position on the channel line-up. The government access channel that was on channels 1 and 55 is now on channel 3. The community access channel on channels 56 and 5 moved to channel 32. The channel line-up will be the same for all subscribers with or without a cable box. Thank you for your viewership.

Hillmann Group Hired to Assess Commerce Marksmanship Range
The Hillmann Group has been selected by the City of Commerce to oversee the site assessment and cleanup of the City's indoor shooting range at Veterans Memorial Park (more).

 I-710 Freeway Improvement Project
The I-710 Freeway is a prominent feature in the City of Commerce. It is a primary goods movement corridor between the San Pedro Bay ports and inland destinations. The City of Commerce and other communities along the corridor have brought attention to the need for improvement of the I-710 freeway, to address issues related to air quality, public health, mobility, traffic safety, and the local economy.

Caltrans, Metro, and the Gateway Cities Council of Governments are working in collaboration with other funding agencies and with the corridor communities to develop a range of corridor improvement alternatives to study in the I-710 Corridor Project Environmental Impact Report/Environmental Impact Statement (EIR/EIS).

The City of Commerce has an I-710 Local Advisory Committee (LAC) that has been meeting regularly since 2008 to advise on the community's desired outcomes for the project, and to provide feedback to the project team from the perspective of residents and businesspeople in the City of Commerce. The Commerce LAC and the LACs of other corridor communities are an essential component of the community participation framework for the I-710 Corridor Project EIR/EIS.

Water Conservation Ordinance Adopted

The City Council has adopted an ordinance aimed at reducing water consumption and using city water supplies more efficiently.  The new ordinance will prohibit the following outdoor water uses:

Hose Watering Prohibitions - No hose watering or wash down of any sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking areas or paved surfaces, except as required for the benefit of public health and safety. No watering of lawns or of landscaping between the hours of 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. No watering of lawns or landscaping more than once a day. No excessive watering of lawns and landscaping and no incorrectly directed or maintained sprinklers that runoff into adjoining streets, parking lots or alleys.

Washing Vehicles - No motor vehicles, boats, trailers, or other types of mobile equipment may be washed except at a commercial car wash or with reclaimed water, unless such a vehicle is washed by hand-held bucket or a water-hose equipped   with an automatic shutoff nozzle. No person shall leave a water hose running while washing a vehicle or at any other time.

Public Eating Places - Restaurants, hotels, cafeterias, cafés or other public places where food is sold or served shall only serve drinking water if it’s requested.

The willful violation of any of the above provisions is subject to a written warning for the first violation.  Each subsequent violation shall be an infraction punishable by a fine of $100. For additional information, please contact Public Services at (323) 722-4805 ext. 4451.
