The Public Safety and Community Services Department is responsible for fostering the health and safety of all who live, work and visit the City of Commerce. The department is comprised of four divisions:
The Public Safety Division, via Community Safety Officers (CSO), augments the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. CSOs patrol the City, direct traffic and take criminal reports. During regular business hours, Animal Control Officers handle the City’s stray animal population with care and compassion. They also provide a monthly pet adoption program which is aired on the City's Cable TV station.
Code Enforcement Officers protect the community’s health and safety by ensuring adherence to a series of codes related to zoning, planning, public nuisance, health and safety.
Emergency Preparedness Office
The Emergency Preparedness Division is responsible for emergency preparedness, incident/disaster communication and training for the Urban Search and Rescue team and staff.
The Social Services Division coordinates programs that serve to enhance the emotional, economical, educational and physical well-being of children, families and seniors. Staff also provides information, resources, guidance and referrals (including employment) to residents or those seeking it.
