Crime Prevention
A variety of crime prevention programs in Commerce include Business Watch, Neighborhood Watch. Comcat Volunteer Program, Vacation Watch, and Operation Kid ID. When available, residents can apply for the one-time Home Security Camera Rebate program.

Business Watch

The best way to reduce crime in and around your workplace is to join Commerce Business Watch. This active program offers businesses: Free security evaluations, Safety presentations, Crime tips, Extra patrol, and Business Watch Coordinator who can assist you with crime prevention tips

Neighborhood Watch Program  
Neighborhood Watch block captains are residents who are the extra eyes and ears of the City. Block Captains work with the Public Safety Division and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department to report criminal activity and/or safety concerns.  Becoming a block captain is a rewarding experience.  It doesn't take a lot of time, just a willingness to be the spokesperson and contact for your block. Remember, crime prevention is a team effort.

The Vacation Watch Program
When you are out of town let Community Services Officer know for additional patrol at your residence.  
To request the service, Call (323) 722-4805, ext. 4466 and provide the following information:
  1. Residence address
  2. Name of person requesting the vacation check
  3. Requestor's home or cell phone number
  4. The dates the property will be vacant

The ComCat (Commerce Community Assistance Team)
The Comcat Team is an active group of volunteers who are cross-trained to assist the Public Safety Division with crime prevention programs and the Emergency Preparedness Office with disaster responses.

Duties include:
  • Certification as a disaster volunteer
  • Assistance with all crime prevention programs
  • Operation of City radios
  • Fingerprinting for Operation Kid Identification
  • Residential and park patrol
  • Reporting hazards to various agencies
  • Assistance with Neighborhood Watch

Operation Kid ID 
Operation Kid Identification is a mobile program where our ComCat volunteers and Community Safety Officers travel to locations in Commerce to fingerprint children. Children's fingerprints are pressed onto small booklets, which are then given to parents for safekeeping. This service and the booklets are provided free of charge to Commerce residents. 

Parents must sign a permission slip to have their children fingerprinted. To find out more about Operation Kid Identification, call Public Safety at  (323) 722-4805, ext. 2870.

Home Security Camera Rebates
When available, the Home Security Camera Rebate program for Commerce residents provides one-time rebates of up to $500 for the purchase and installation of security cameras. For more information about the program, please see the program guidelines.
